ABOUT DC: I’m a first-generation American. My parents both came to the United States in the 1970s from the tiny island nation of Grenada in the West Indies (population 110,000.) My mom was a teacher and also had her own business selling beauty and skin care products to friends, family, the neighbors and anyone else who was interested. Dad worked at the same company for more than 40 years going from stockroom clerk to supervisor. I grew up in New Jersey, a few miles outside of Manhattan, eating curry and plantains, listening to Soca music and having my mom sew the clothes I wore to school because, in her words, “this is custom made.” I learned the definition of ‘hustle’ from my parents. I also learned what it was like to be bulled for bringing “funny-smelling food” to school for lunch.

Today, I’m a corporate grinder and sales consultant. I spent more than 10 years selling media and software products to Fortune 1000 companies. But it was always a grind. I was constantly confused about my place in the world and my future always looked cloudy. I knew I wanted to be successful and was willing to work hard for it — but I didn’t know how. My parents taught me how to hustle but if you want to transcend the circumstances that you’re born into its going to take more than just hard work and luck.

So I began to collect bits of information from reading articles, experimenting with work, investing in personal development and talking to passionate and successful people who shared their knowledge in a way that made sense and resonated with me. I often thought of these bits of insight as cheat codes to life and I used them to pay for college and grad school, to get out of debt and to become financially independent.

WHY CHEAT CODES? I want to collect and share more cheat codes with you so we can progress personally, professionally, financially and spiritually. Nothing is more fulfilling than lifting up others and helping them succeed. This is the stuff that people often wish they knew but no one ever told them on their way to greatness.
